This collection shows some of the types of steam locomotives that I fired on during my railway career. I have also driven 95% of them.
I have actually fired on all the engines that are pictured in the Annesley / Nottingham area.

"K3" 61804 has just come off the ashpits. It will return to its home depot of Woodford later in the day. She was withdrawn from Woodford in March 1962

Ex N.E.R.
Ex N.E.R. "B16" 61418 at Annesley. The original Raven B16/1's were detested by Annesley men. The firehole doors were what we called "fish & chip shop" They had anti-glare screens both sides and on top. Mexborough and York men would leave them on the ashpits with the fire level with the firehole door! Pity the poor fireman that had to clean the fire! The smokebox would always be full of char, often way above the crossbar! This example lasted until June 1964, when she was withdrawn from York (50A)

The "O1's" were our staple diet for local colliery workings till 1962, when they were withdrawn at a stroke, and replaced by Stanier "8F's"

Standard class "4 " 2-6-0 no.76052 is seen here at Leicester in August 1962. Earlier that month Jack Jordan and myself had her on the 06.20 ex-Nottingham Victoria, all stations to Marylebone, which we worked as far as Woodford. The timetable allowed 2 hours 1 minute to Woodford, and an incredible 4 hours 22 miutes to Marylebone at an average speed of 28.8 mph! She was withdrawn from 6A Chester in December 1966.
